Advanced Footcare with Foot Soak Advanced footcare is a nursing service focused on the assessment, prevention, and management of foot and lower-limb concerns within the practitioner's individual scope of practice and competence. An individualized foot and lower-limb assessment is completed before treatment to identify the client's foot-care needs, relevant health factors, risk factors, and suitability for the proposed care. Where appropriate, treatment may include a brief foot soak to cleanse and prepare the feet for subsequent footcare. The soak is selected and provided based on the client's assessment, skin condition, circulation, sensation, health history, and individual needs. The temperature, duration, products used, and other treatment parameters are appropriate to the client's clinical assessment and the practitioner's competence. Following assessment and preparation, footcare may include appropriate management of nails, calluses, corns, and other foot-care concerns that are within the practitioner's education, competence, and authorized scope of practice. A foot soak is an adjunct to the footcare service and is not represented as a treatment or cure for an underlying medical condition. Treatment may be modified, deferred, or discontinued when assessment identifies a contraindication, unexpected finding, or concern requiring further medical or other health-professional assessment. Appropriate infection-prevention and control practices, equipment cleaning and reprocessing procedures, informed consent, documentation, client education, and follow-up processes are used for the care provided.
