Microneedling
Description
Microneedling with the SkinPen is a cosmetic procedure that uses a Health Canada–licensed microneedling device to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. The procedure is intended to support improvement in the appearance of selected skin concerns, such as acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin texture. Prior to treatment, an individualized client assessment is completed to determine whether microneedling is appropriate and whether the client is an appropriate candidate for the procedure. Treatment parameters are selected based on the client’s assessment, skin characteristics, treatment area, device manufacturer’s instructions for use, and the practitioner’s education and competence. Microneedling may result in temporary redness, swelling, sensitivity, pinpoint bleeding, dryness, or other skin reactions. Results vary between individuals, and multiple treatments may be recommended depending on the client’s goals and clinical assessment. Potential complications, contraindications, alternatives, expected outcomes, and appropriate post-treatment care will be discussed before treatment. Treatment is performed using evidence-informed infection-prevention and control practices and in accordance with applicable professional, regulatory, organizational, and manufacturer requirements.
